Grandma Alice
March 31, 1941 – Oct. 18, 2016
Alice was born in Van Buren, Ark., on March 31, 1941. She passed away peacefully at home in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on Oct. 18, 2016, surrounded by her family.
Alice shared her life with her husband of 57 years, Robert “Bob” Kernen. From that union she mothered 12 children. For her family, this is their greatest loss, she was their rock. Alice was known and loved by so many people. She was kind, affectionate, wise, and had a love for sewing, crocheting, cooking, embroidery, bingo, traveling and gardening; but most of all she LOVED her family.
Alice is survived by: Husband Robert “Bob” Kernen (Coeur d’Alene and Alamosa, Colo.); daughters Evelyn (Helder) Espinola (Alamosa), Patsy (Wally) Van Der Wal (Southport, Queensland, Australia), Terrie (Steve) Kent (Edgewood, Wash.), Tina Kernen (Luis) (Coeur d’Alene), Faye Maestas (Coeur d’Alene), Dorothy (Gary) Woodruff (Lynnwood, Wash.); son Bennie Kernen (Beth) (University Place, Wash.); sisters Barbara (John, Bodey) Destifamis (Hollister, Calif.) and Lucille (Oscar) Olivares (Casa Grande, Ariz.); 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death and extending a loving welcome at the Pearly Gates; where they have awaited her famous enchiladas, French toast breakfasts, warm hugs and kisses, and stories of her babies, are: her parents, Gary and Ida Jolly; her two sets of twin boys; her son, Robert “Bobby” Kernen; mother/father-in-law Elmer and Dorothy Kernen; grandson Christopher Lopez; great-grandson AJ Lopez and son-in-law Ralph Nieves.
She is wished a loving and peaceful send off and Godspeed for her journey home to our heavenly father. She will be greatly missed.
A memorial service for Alice will be set for a later date next summer to accommodate out of town family and friends.
