Carol Everson

Carol Marie Everson, 80, went to be with the Lord peacefully and lovingly surrounded by 20 members of her family in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho at 3:50 PM June 1, 2018. Carol was born in Salem, Oregon June 15, 1937, daughter to Lowell C. & Jennie L. (Skinner) Loveall. Fourth of five children, she grew up on a dairy farm and enjoyed the country life, retelling stories on the farm to her children and grandchildren throughout the years. Her family would gather at the end of most every evening and all bring out their instruments to play and sing together. She loved helping out in the barn, accompanying her two older brothers and relished in their attention and loving conversation. When asked one of her many “Why?” questions, they’d answer, “So little girls like you would ask questions.” She loved her nickname her father called her, “Buttercup”. She was taught to drive a tractor at the age of 5. She adored her two sisters throughout the years. She attended Northwest Nazarene College and upon leaving college, worked at the Skamania County court house in Stevenson, Washington, where she made a lifelong friendship with Barbara Aker. She married R. Arthur Freeman in 1958 and devoted herself to her family and church as a Nazarene Pastor’s wife for 16 years. Together they had 4 children, six years apart to the day. She faithfully shared her talents beautifully playing and singing for church services, self-taught on the violin, piano and organ, and led her children to harmonize and sing often during offertory. Trips to and from church, multiple times per week, were passed easily in the car with all of the family singing in harmony throughout those years. She was a favorite Sunday school teacher to many children over the years. She had a knack for retelling stories and creating interesting visuals and crafts to capture their attention. Carol was a strong, courageous woman, yet was actually shy, sweet and tender-hearted. Due to unfortunate circumstances, life started anew in Kent, Washington in 1974 where she finished raising her four children and devoted herself to her family and serving others at Kent Nazarene Church (now Hillside Church). She sought additional education and made a career at The Boeing Company as a Quality Control Inspector, retiring in 1986. During this time, she met the love of her life, Ralph J. Everson. They married in 1980 and enjoyed nearly 40 years of marriage. They were the sweetest couple. Carol loved her family more than life itself. She regularly made the simplest event a spectacular event with her attention to detail and creative flair for entertaining and decorating. Carol loved to cook and relished in finding the most delicious recipes to create for her family. No one made better pies – especially coconut cream, banana cream, lemon and key lime! She loved flowers and displayed her talent of arranging in her home. Her smile was contagious, as was her laughter. She had a way of making each person she knew feel like they were the most important person in her life. Her grandchildren treasure the times they got to spend with her as she would create a project and pretend with them in her special way. Carol and Ralph spent the last year and a half in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho to be closer to part of her family she had missed being near to since 1995. Although her CLL illness didn’t allow her to completely discover all of the beautiful and wonderful aspects of the region, she thoroughly enjoyed the scenery, friendly people and renewed sense of adventure. Carol is survived by her husband, Ralph J. Everson; 2 sons: Dwight (& Amy) Freeman, David (& Beth) Freeman; 3 daughters: Diane (& Jim) Bals, Cindy (& Jeff) Bond, Judy (& Mike) Hampson, 10 grandchildren: Jennie (& Kurt) Zimmerman, Sara (& Jamey) Hull, Ben Fisher, Rachel (& Jake) van Gilse, Olivia Freeman, Brandi (& Dave) Sheridan, Shawn (& Heidi) Hampson, Tiwi (& Steve) Nicks, Josh Freeman, Crystal (& Craig) Barry; 8 great grandchildren: Claire, Ivy, Lila & Violet Zimmerman, Charlotte & Henry Hull, Addy & Emma Nicks; sister, Naomi (& John) Hancock, brother, Claude (& Margie) Loveall, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, Lowell & Jennie Loveall, brother, Wayne Loveall and sister, June Palmquist. Extra special thanks for the attentive and loving care by the staff at Rehab NW and Hospice House of North Idaho.
