Chester “Chet” Baird, 89, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 17, 2017, in Post Falls, Idaho. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Coeur d’Alene Bible Church.
Chet was born on April 26, 1927, in Elk Valley, Tennessee, to parents Aaron Baird and Phoebe Hatmaker Baird. He was one of 11 children.
Chet was a strong, gentle, loving man who put God first, followed closely by his family and his country. A former Command Sergeant Major for the U.S. Army, Chet proudly served in the military for 31 years from February 1945 to May 1976. Nobody was more handsome than Command Sergeant Major Baird when he was in his military uniform.
Chet is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Dorothy Baird. They lived a full and joyous life together traveling the world in Chet’s retirement, and are long-time residents of Coeur d’Alene and faithful parishioners of Coeur d’Alene Bible Church.
Also surviving Chet are his sons Mikel Baird, Clark Pierce and Robert Pierce; sisters Mary Anne O’Donnell and Edna Chambers; and several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and friends.
Chet was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Nolan Baird, Adrion Baird, Nathan Baird, Virgil Baird, Willard Baird and Roy Baird; and sisters Louise Bryant and Sophie Baird.
Though we are saddened to lose our husband, father, brother, uncle, grandpa and friend, out hearts are full knowing he is home with his Father.
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.” – Psalm 23:6 (KJV)
