Clarence L. Haugen, affectionately known as “Tek,” was a remarkable man whose life was defined by love, dedication, and integrity. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, leadership, and cherished memories.
Clarence was born on September 7, 1931, in Temple, North Dakota, to Hjalmer and Hattie Haugen. At the age of 9, he and his family, including his nine siblings, moved to Salem, Oregon, to begin a new chapter. He graduated from Salem Senior High School and attended Santa Rosa Junior College.
In 1950, Clarence answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Army. He served for seven years, including deployment to the Korean War as a member of the 24th Infantry Division. He was honorably discharged in 1957 as a Training Sergeant.
Clarence excelled in business and became a trusted leader in the banking industry in Oregon. He founded Centennial Bank and went on to manage several other financial institutions with unwavering integrity and respect.
On March 22, 1958, Clarence married the love of his life, Billie, in Salem, Oregon. Together, they shared 67 wonderful years of marriage, raising three children and building a family full of love, laughter, and adventure. Their children, Brian, Jill, and Wade, ensured there was never a dull moment, and the family grew to include a vibrant and loving tribe of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In his memory, we raise a glass, hold up some bunny ears, and echo his spirited toast: “Up to it… Down to it!” He will be dearly missed but forever remembered with love and gratitude.
Celebration of life will be 1:30 P.M. Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Coeur d'Alene, ID.
