Colleen J. Sawyer-Legge passed away on October 17, 2017 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 6, 1925 to Earl L. Sawyer and Germaine A. Deleglise. She graduated from Washburn High School in Minneapolis in 1943 and attended the University of Minnesota. She moved with her family to Spokane, Washington in 1946. She met her husband Don while working at the Northwest Airlines Reservation Center in the Davenport Hotel. They were married on May 25, 1948 and shared 49 years together until Don’s death in 1998.
She lived a rather nomadic life with Don as his work with the Federal
Government shuffled them across the country, from Washington state to Maine and many places in between. Don’s final assignment in Riverside, California in 1970 brought her to a permanent home. She made strong friendships as she became active in St. Andrews Newman Center, bridge clubs, bunco groups and Meals on Wheels. She worked for the County of Riverside in the election department for 12+ years in both Riverside and Temecula. She moved to Coeur d'Alene in 2008.
She is survived by her children Kathy (Dave) Kuntz of Coeur d'Alene, Pam (Vince) Rosse of Riverside, and Kent (Julie) Legge of Woodlake, California; her brother, Robert (Carolyn) Sawyer of Ridgefield, WA; four grandchildren, Karl (Kimberly) Kuntz of Buckley, WA, Kelsea (Bernard) Franklin of Bothell, WA, Jessica (Samuel) Pilch of Bozeman, MT, Kendra Legge of Woodlake, WA and four great-grandchildren Konner Kuntz, Kyleigh Kuntz, Vincent Franklin and Lydia Franklin.
No services will be held at her request, however a Christian mass will be held in her name at 5:30pm on Friday, October 27, 2017 at St. Andrews Newman Center; 105 W. Big Springs Rd., Riverside, CA.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Lodge at Fairway Forest Assisted Living Facility for the excellent, tender-loving care they provided Colleen for several years. The family also thanks Hospice of North Idaho for the care and guidance they provided for her in her last few months; and the volunteers at NOSDA (No One Shall Die Alone) for their support during her final days. The family appreciates English Funeral Chapel for the assistance they provided and for the care they have shown our mother and ourselves.
