Surrounded by love and with a heart filled with the hope of that great resurrection day, Dean Huggins, 59, went peacefully to sleep in Jesus in his home on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, at 9:20 a.m. with his wife of 37 years by his side.
Harold Dean Huggins was born July 12, 1957, in Seattle, Wash., to Harold and Marian (Kosmatka) Huggins grew up fishing and hunting with his dad and brothers and moved around as a child with his family, spending some of his most memorable years living in Mackay, Idaho, where he graduated from Mackay High School in 1975. One of his many travels after high school landed him in Kodiak, Alaska, where he met and later married the love of his life, Laura Ann Robb, in 1979.
Throughout his life, Dean had a great passion for all things fast, loud and powerful and yet, had an eye for seeing the silent beauty in his surroundings. Every day found him engineering new adventures and tinkering with new ideas. Dean was captain of the Spokane Stars Basketball League, the proud co-founder and president of Inland Outlook Photography Club, a member of the Professional Photographers Association and even saw various publications of his pictures in the Gleaner and Art Chowder magazines. He proudly gave many of the best years of his life to the love and care of his family and in service to God at the Otis Orchards Seventh-day Adventist Church, holding many offices ranging from Youth Leader to Preacher and everything in between.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Ann, and his four children, Michael (and Rachel) Huggins, Vanessa (and Shahn) Wilson, Russell (and Rachel) Huggins and Nathan Huggins; and was also the blessed, boisterous grandpa of four. He is also survived by his siblings, Helene Pence, Brian (and Sandra) Huggins, Sean Huggins and Lisa (and David) Rupert; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family requests a private funeral, but will be holding a public “Celebration of Life” at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, at Otis Orchards SDA Church, 4308 N. Harvard Road, Otis Orchards, Wash. Most importantly, as per Dean’s request, attendees should wear colorful attire as opposed to the traditional black. This will be a potluck meal, please bring a dish (marked “vegetarian“ or “meat” accordingly) to share.
If desired, donations in honor of Dean’s life may be made to Orchards SDA Church or the Inland Outlook Photography Club.
