Dorothy Sadie Sales

Dorothy S. Sales 98 1/2 years young. January 26, 1926 to August 12, 2024. Dorothy passed away in the wee hours of the morning on August 12, 2024 strong in mind but weak in body. Multiple brain strokes depleted her body, but she was spunky until the very end. She went to bed and woke up in the arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior.

She was born and raised in Clinton, Minnesota to Hugo and Celia Schlimme on a farm. They had milk cows, chickens, and pigs. Oh, and one horse, Teddy, the choice of transportation for all 8 children to and from school, uphill both ways!

After finishing high school, Dorothy and her oldest sister moved to Nevada and then on to Spokane, Washington, where they got a job in the kitchen at Baxter Hospital. Not long after that she met her husband of 60 years. Three years later they moved to Hauser Lake, ID where they fished and pursued life together. Not long after moving to Hauser they became owners of Curley’s Tavern in Hauser Lake, Idaho. They made Curley’s known for the infamous Curley’s Coneys and fun friends like Box Car Annie who would show up to a few of the locals’ birthday parties. At Hauser Lake, she took care of her hummingbird visitors and her favorite Bonn Lilac bush. She participated in many events to help her local community.

Dorothy was known for her handiwork of knitting, crocheting, embroidering, quilting, and crafting of all kinds. She definitely loved bingo as well as pinochle, cribbage, and other games. She was a fierce competitor of the game 31 and would love to win at family events. Her love for making Swedish crepes, cinnamon rolls, caramels, taffy, and other delicious treats was passed on to other family members that continue this tradition of baking.

In the fall of 2014, she moved to Garden Plaza of Post Falls, ID and in the fall of 2019 she moved to Brighton Court in Spokane Valley, WA to be closer to family. During this time she left a trail of faithful friends.

Proceeded in death by parents, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, friends, and one grumpy old fisherman, Don Sales. She is survived by one sister (out of eight siblings), daughter Doris Jordan (husband Les Jordan), 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, friends, and many beloved caregivers.

You are invited to Dorothy’s celebration of life Sunday, September 15, 2024 at 2 PM, Brighton Court Assisted Living, 1308 N Vercler Rd, Spokane Valley, WA. It is located just east of Spokane Valley Hospital.
