Erna Emily Ost was born Nov. 8, 1920, to Andreas and Emilia Tintzmann near New Leipzig, N.D. As a young girl she was raised on the family farm with her siblings; two brothers, Henry and Bernie, and her sisters, Emma, Ludia, Ida, Caraline, Ella, Elma and Edna, whom she loved very much. She worked hard with her brothers and sisters. She enjoyed all the animals on the farm, especially her little pony, Fannie.
During the depression she moved from North Dakota with her family to the Bitterroot Valley in Montana, where she met the love of her life, Albin Ost. After WWII, Erna and Albin lived in the Spokane Valley (Wash.) where they raised their family. In 1963 they bought 70 acres and moved the house from Dishman to the farm in Newman Lake. In 1987 they moved to Santa, Idaho, to a 40 acre ranch, where they enjoyed riding four wheelers in the woods.
In 1993, Erna and Albin moved to Post Falls, Idaho. In 1994, she lost her husband and her grandson, Danny, looked after her until her passing.
She loved going to Calvary Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed sewing with the Dorcus group. Erna was a great German cook. She loved traveling and spending time outdoors.
Erna is survived by her children, Allen, Robert and Nancy; her grandchildren, Danny, Jesse, Nicole and Alishia, and great-grandchildren, Demas, Cullen and Malike. Her family and friends loved her very much and she will always be in their hearts. Faith, love, family and friends were always important to her.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021, at Fairmont Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley Ave., Spokane Wash.
