Evelyn Bjorvik

In loving memory of Evelyn Elaine Bjorvik who passed away June 29, 2016, in Spokane. Evelyn was born April 3, 1927, in Casselton, N.D.

She graduated from high school in Helena, Mont., and especially loved her time working at The Parrot Confectionery. She and her husband, Bernard (Bernie) Bjorvik, raised five children in Dalton Gardens, Idaho. Evelyn worked at the Dalton Elementary School and then for many years for Dr. William Wood in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Her hobbies were gardening, reading, sewing (making many prom and bridesmaid dresses), and family time telling stories and playing cards (pinochle and nertz).

After retirement she liked bingo at her community clubhouse, casino slots, and was an avid Seattle Mariners and Gonzaga Basketball fan. Evelyn and Bernie traveled the U.S. and spent several winters in Arizona. Evelyn also enjoyed traveling to yearly family summer reunions since 1996. Mom was quick-witted, articulate and she kept her sense of humor until the very end. She was and is loved deeply by her family and the many friends and loved ones that have passed before her. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandkids and great-grandkids who will hold onto their memories of time spent with her and her words of wisdom she left with us.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie Bjorvik; her mother, Edith Wiedeman and father-in-law Christian Bjorvik. She is survived by her children, Donna Vargo (Andy), Doug Cisney, Carole Petersen (Randy), Chris Quartin and Susan Heckenlively (Rick). She is also survived by 11 grandchildren — Michael Phelps, Stephanie Marks, Brian Allen, Heather Rivera, Heath Petersen, Jessica Ellingsworth, Casey Cisney, Erik Allen, Kristin Lay, Samantha Quartin and Christian Kincaid; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Evelyn requested no funeral service, but a celebration of her life instead to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.
