Forrest Smith

Forrest David Smith, better known as Dave, passed away on Dec. 5, 2017, one month before his 94th birthday. His early years included three years of service in the Army Air Corps as a lieutenant.

He raised his family in Castro Valley, Calif., and moved to Turlock upon retirement with his beloved wife, Wilma, to whom he was married for more than 55 years. He became very close to his neighbors there and they grieved his departure when he decided to sell his home and move to Northern Idaho eight years ago to be near his youngest daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter: Joan, Rob and Jeni Dillon. They continued to keep in touch once he moved, sending goodies and even coming up to visit.

Once in Coeur d’Alene, his new home became Bestland Senior Living, a short distance from his family. He was happy there, with an apartment that looked out to the courtyard where he could view the birds. He was very social, helpful, generous and grateful. He loved giving out candy to staff and residents, joking and helping those who needed help. He was always quick with a “thank you” to anyone who did anything for him. He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.

As well as his family in Coeur d’Alene, he leaves behind a daughter and son-in-law in Washington, Janice and Ken Lincoln; a daughter and son-in-law in California, Juanita and Charles Embrey; and two granddaughters in California, Vicki Cooper and Lorie Embrey. Forrest will be placed alongside his beloved wife, Wilma, at Turlock Memorial Park.
