Glen Petersen

Glen Otis Petersen passed away peacefully on July 20, 2016, at the age of 89. He was born on February 4, 1927 in Norfolk, Nebraska to Louie and Opal (Timperley) Petersen on his mother’s birthday.
Glen’s family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho when he was a young child. He completed his schooling there and then went to work on a cattle and sheep ranch in the Three Creek, Idaho area. He and his brother Dale loved this remote part of Idaho. He greatly enjoyed his dogs and horses and developed a special bond with them. A tireless worker, Glen always took pride in doing a superior job and being a loyal friend.
He married Orelene Inez Golay on April 4, 1948. They made their first home in Dillon, Montana where he was a rancher. They later lived in Colville, Washington where he ranched and worked for the US Forest Service packing supplies on horses and mules to fire lookouts. Glen and Orelene also ranched in Ruby Valley, Nevada and spent many years in Murtaugh, Idaho at the Uhlig Ranch where Glen was cattle foreman and served as the veterinarian for 21 years. Ultimately, they ranched with family in the Yakima Valley.
Upon retirement in 1999, Glen and Orelene moved to an acreage in Rathdrum, Idaho among the evergreen trees and wildlife that they loved. They enjoyed exploring beautiful Northern Idaho and Eastern Washington. Having friends and relatives visit was always a special joy. Glen had a good story or joke for everyone. Throughout his life, he was an avid reader who especially enjoyed Zane Grey and Louis L’ Amour. He was also a skillful woodworker, making many unique boot jacks and walking sticks which he enjoyed sharing with others.
He was preceded in death by his parents and elder brothers, Clarence and Vern. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, younger brothers Dale of Twin Falls, Idaho; Byron of Yakima, Washington, and Fred of Colville, Washington. He is also survived by his son Christopher (Norma) of Liberty Lake, Washington and his daughters Faye (Ronald) Mains of Bickleton, Washington, Jane (Steven) Gines of Outlook, Washington, and Sally (Duane) West of Hampton, Virginia along with ten grandchildren and 22 greatgrandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 500 Nathaniel Lane in Zillah, Washington.
