Our beautiful Grace spent most of her life in Idaho, with the majority of her young years spent in Rathdrum. She graduated from Rathdrum High school in 1949 and soon after married Kenneth Smith. They were married forty years and had four children; Randy Smith, deceased, Laurie Smith/ Art, Coeur d’Alene, Danny Smith, Spokane, Lynnette Smith/ Bing, Rathdrum. Along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren who all loved her tremendously, also family and friends. Actually, anyone who knew Grace, loved her. She was just pure love.
In 1992 Grace married a lifetime friend; Robert Young. They were very happy together, until his death in 1995.
Grace went on being her sweet self to her family and friends. She was the kindest person you could ever meet, her gentle sweetness was a joy for all.
She was also an artist and applied that to her life. She made her own patterns. Her flower gardens were a work of art. She had an artist's eye and could make anything look pretty.
Grace was lucky enough to stay at home as she grew older, she has a son and two wonderful daughters who looked after her. She also had an especially caring friend, who was Paul Brock, who gave her so much of himself to make her life comfortable and peaceful. Before she died, she said; “He is family!”
Grace was preceded in death by her wonderful mother, Alma Ashby, her brother Earl Balyeat, and sister Alice Phelps.
