Holly Elizabeth Dunn

December 15, 1964 - September 2, 2024

Holly Elizabeth Dunn (Gregg), beloved mother, grandmotherh, sister, and friend passed away on September 2, 2024, in Spokane, WA, at the age of 59. Born on December 15, 1964, in Wallace, ID, Holly brought joy wherever she went, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and creativity.

For eight wonderful years, Holly dedicated her life and passion to shaping young minds as a Kindergarten and Music teacher in McDermitt, NV. Known affectionately to her students as Ms. Dunn, she took great pride in orchestrating semi-annual music programs showcasing the talents of her K-5 students. In Nevada and later Tuluksak, Alaska, her impact as a teacher extended beyond the classroom with many of her students becoming family. Throughout her career, she earned several awards and was proud of every student that came through her classroom. Living amongst the Paiute and Yupik tribes not only gave her a unique teaching career but gave her and her kids experiences and memories they'll always cherish and remember. These include stories from the elders,  pow wows, fiddles, dog mushing, ice fishing, skinning seal, cutting fish, and even defeathering a swan.

Holly was a nurturing soul who understood the importance of making everyone feel special and accepted. Her kind and goofy personality made her a joy to be around, and she had a unique way of lifting the spirits of those she encountered. Friends and family fondly recall her spirited game nights, where laughter filled the air, often supplemented by her tendency to change the rules mid-game. She was a steadfast companion for karaoke sessions, where her enthusiasm encouraged others to join in the fun, no matter their skill level.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Holly’s greatest pride came from her family. She cherished her children, Kevin Dunn and Heather Rayne, celebrating their lives and the individuals they were becoming. Her heart swelled with love for her granddaughter, Serenity Rayne, and grandson, Pax Rayne, whom she adored with all her being.

Holly is survived by the love of her life, Donald Fletschinger, her children including her adopted daughter Davida Alexie Paul of Alaska, grandchildren, her sisters; Karen Hegbloom, Lana Lindberg, Julie Gregg, Joyce Benjamin, and DeeDee Newell, along with their spouses and children, the Dunn family who were always considered family including 'The Boys' in Oklahoma and their spouses and children. Let’s not forget the heartwarming friendships, countless students and clients who became like family throughout her life.

She will be missed by everyone that knew her, but they are comforted by the fact that she is relieved of the pain she endured in this life and that she has been reunited with her loved ones that have gone to heaven before her including her beloved mother, Norma Faye Carter, father, Henry Alvin Gregg, and brother, Patrick Lindberg. Holly's kindness and compassion continue to resonate within us all. She was always ready to lend an ear, a hand, or even a shoulder to those in need or even open her home up, offer homecooked meals and a warm place to stay.

A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor on September 21, 2024, starting at 2:00 PM at the Morning Club in Mullan, ID. As we gather to remember Holly, we will celebrate the profound impact she had on our lives—a beautiful culmination of artistry, love, and an incredible spirit that will never be forgotten.
