James Jay McGraugh

James Jay McGraugh 57, formally of Vacaville, Ca. Passed away suddenly August 23, 2024 in Hayden, Idaho.

Beloved son of Richard McGraugh and Diane Downing McGraugh. Loving father to Samantha Jeffers (Robert) and Ricky McGraugh (Kat).

He took great pride in his two grandchildren. Moving to Dalton Gardens, Idaho in December 2022 to be near his granddaughter Saoirse. In December 2023 he was blessed with the arrival of his grandson Thomas. 

Brother to Cheryl Tracy (David) North Bend, WA, Deborah Davis (Jesse) Vacaville, CA, Colleen Lee (Josh) Weaverville, CA, Wayne Downing (Jaci) Rathdrum, ID, and Joshua Hinkle (Rowan) Reno, Nevada.

Survived by many nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by his mother Janice Hinkle.

He loved fishing and being on the water! He worked on a commercial fishing boat in Fort Bragg, CA. One of his claim to fame was that while in Fort Bragg he secured a spot in the opening credits in the 1987 movie “Overboard” with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. He loved telling that story, and the whole 20 bucks he made off of in first acting debut. Needless to say he stuck with fishing.

For over 39 years worked as a small and large equipment mechanic. He belongs to the operators engineers union Local #3. James loved spending time with his dad fishing and going to the target range.

One of his prize possessions is his 2003 Harley Davidson, 100 Anniversary Fat Boy.

A celebration of life will be held August 30, 2024 at the home of his parents in Dalton Gardens, Idaho.
