Jay Dolan Stone, born February 19, 1952, entered into everlasting life on September 28, 2024, surrounded by family.
A graduate of Coeur d'Alene High School and Liberty University, Jay served honorably in the Navy from 1972 to 1976. He dedicated over thirty years as a caretaker at English Funeral Home, where his compassion and commitment were deeply appreciated.
Jay was a man of profound faith and kindness, influencing the lives of those around him with his humility and loving nature. His life was a living testament to his strong faith in Jesus Christ, guiding his every interaction with heartfelt peace and patience. He was devoted to his family, always making himself available to talk and pray. Even through the ups and downs in a long fight with cancer, he remained steadfast and joyful, never complaining once.
He is survived by his son Brandon Stone, daughter Leslee (Timothy) Branson, former wife Trena (Dennis) Burt, brothers John (Patricia) Stone, Tomm (Terry) Stone, brother-in-law Herb Helstrom, as well as grandchildren Aeden, ChloeeJean, and Ethan. Jay was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanne Renee Helstrom, and his parents, Arthur and Meta (nee Knudsen) Stone.
Jay enjoyed hiking, reading, writing, and engaging in meaningful conversations, especially sharing his testimony. His ability to encourage others through his tendency toward grace, while lending a listening ear, was remarkable. From sharing a cup of coffee, opening his home for a barbeque, or even speaking with a stranger, Jay's life exemplified kindness, service, and faith, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met.
His family and those he knew will be forever blessed by him.
One of Jay's favorite verses:
Isiah 55:6-13
6 Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
12 For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
13 Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.
A Celebration of Life for Jay will be held at a later date.
