Joseph Ament

Joe was born on Nov. 20, 1923, in Bluffton, Minn., to Joseph and Katherine Ament.

He stayed in Minnesota until 1943 when he enlisted in the Navy and attended military training at Farragut Naval Training Station. During the war, he was deployed to the South Pacific and served on the USS Fletcher. Joe returned to Minnesota after the war, married Mary Hensel in 1948 and they moved out west to North Idaho and raised three sons in the Silver Valley area.

After several successful business ventures, he moved to Coeur d’Alene and continued in the home building business. Retiring in 1980, he took up several hobbies including golf, bowling and gardening. At age 90, he was still golfing four to five days a week. Joe was a longtime member of Eagles and the Knights of Columbus organizations.

Joe is survived by his three sons, Joe, Bill and Tim Ament; seven siblings; numerous stepchildren; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joe is preceded in death by his wives, Mary, Carol and Rita; and his two brothers, Herb and Dick Ament.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2016, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
