Karen Burch

Karen Burch of Post Falls, Idaho, originally from Carlsbad, Calif., peacefully took the hand of Jesus and went on to heaven. She loved our Lord and Savior and was a devout Christian and was saved in 1953. She was surrounded by her family on June 12, 2016, at Hospice House of North Idaho. Born March 30, 1944, in San Diego, Calif., she is predeceased by her parents, Robert John Sr. and Eva Ruth (Price) Little; her two younger sisters, twins Colleen Sollars and Maureen Little; and her husband, Barney Burch.

Karen was raised in Carlsbad and graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1962. She was Miss Congeniality in the Miss Carlsbad contest and was the most beautiful Mom. When she was 18, she was swept off her feet by a ride on the hood of James Allen’s classic white Chevy 409. They soon married. They had two children, Debra (Allen) Maginn and Stephen Allen, who were born and raised in Carlsbad. Twenty-some years later they divorced.

She loved her family and large extended family by always hosting the holiday dinners at our house. She volunteered for the school PTA and was recess monitor. She was an amazing Camp Fire Girl leader and took such good care of all the girls. She enjoyed selling Avon and Tupperware, so she could stay home and raise her children and be there for them. Later she went to work for banks, and then on to another passion, financial aid for colleges. She was the happiest when she was helping students get financial aid for their schooling.

She followed her son, Stephen and daughter-in-law, when they moved to Idaho in 1992 where she resided until her passing. She loved the seasons, trees and mountains of Idaho. She was fascinated and loved butterflies. She met and married her second husband, Bob Walbaum. They enjoyed their cabin by the lake and fishing. They ended up divorcing. She met and married Barney Burch in Idaho in 1999. They enjoyed their pet poodle, Star, and loved birds, until his death in 2004.

Karen’s favorite pastime was spending time with her granddaughters. She got a kick out of playing dress up and having tea parties with them. Her grandson loved it when she read him books. She loved sewing, crocheting and painting. Later in life, she was always seen with her precious poodle, Princess. She looked forward to watching a church service on her computer on Sundays and playing around on the computer.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra and son-in-law Russell Maginn of Roseville, Calif.; her granddaughter, Jennetta Maginn of Roseville; grandson Reece and Samantha Maginn of Roseville; son Stephen and daughter-in-law Jennifer (Burch) Allen of Post Falls, Idaho; granddaughter Patricia (Allen) and Steven Eddy; great-granddaughter Trinity Eddy; great-grandson Jaxxon Eddy of Everett, Wash.; Kristin Allen and great-grandson Jace Pfitzer of Post Falls; and Sarah Allen and newborn great-grandson Ty Hartley of Post Falls; and stepdaughter Joanna (Burch) and Cory Escott of Vancouver, Wash.; and her brother, John and sister-in-law Cynthia of Sacramento, Calif. Other survivors include several cousins, nephews and nieces.

Memorial graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. until noon today, June 17, 2016, at Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice House of North Idaho, 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835 (http://www.hospiceofnorthidaho.org/donate-now).
