Larry Lenz

Larry D. Lenz of Hayden, Idaho, passed away April 2, 2018, at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Wash., after a short battle with cancer. Larry was the eldest of 11 children born to Marvin and Enith Lenz.

He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them hunting, fishing and enjoying a good laugh. Larry wasn’t shy about giving his numerous nieces and nephews a good ribbing and sharing words of wisdom with his younger siblings. He loved country music and in his younger days he enjoyed kicking up his boots on the dance floor.

Larry was born on Aug. 17, 1948, in Valley City, N.D. In 1955, Marvin and Enith, along with their four young children, moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. After moving to Coeur d’Alene, Larry welcomed seven more siblings to the family. Larry attended St. Thomas Catholic School and graduated from IHM High School in 1967.

After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Navy. He was a carpenter by trade and worked for Boise Cascade until it closed. For the next 17 years, Larry worked for his Uncle Cliff as a ranch hand. In 2005, he began working for the Idaho State Transportation Department and retired in 2015.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Lenz and his brother, Robert Lenz; along with his grandparents; and various aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his loving mother, Enith Lenz; five brothers, Jeff (Gail), Scott (Jane), Pat (Erin), Fred (Denise) and Joe (Dawna); four sisters, Diana (Norman) Sperle, Mary (Mark) Castle, Yvonne (Dave) Palmer and Elizabeth (Kevin) Schmeckpeper; numerous nieces and nephews; daughter Stacy Lenz and granddaughter, Luka; aunts Grace Boughton, Rosie (Frank) Cheyney and Lola Hoffman; uncles Clifford (Darlene) Lenz and Robert (Pat) Hoffman; along with numerous cousins.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 6, 2018, at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery, 115 S. 23rd St., Coeur d’Alene. A reception to follow at St. Thomas Parish Center, 406 N. 10th St., Coeur d’Alene.
