Lloyd and Natalie Unzicker

Lloyd and Natalie Unzicker passed peacefully 12 hours apart on October 7th and 8th, 2024, in Hayden, Idaho. Their close passing is a testament to their love, loyalty, and connection and forever leaves a space in the hearts of those who deeply loved them. Lloyd and Natalie were married on March 22, 1963, at the Fowler Christian Church in Fowler, Kansas. Together, they raised three children: Kenneth, David, and Cristine Freshour. They provided a loving home for their children and eventually grandchildren, whom they welcomed for extended stays during the summer months. After retirement in 1993, they moved to Hayden, Idaho, to be close to her friend and daughter-in-law, Gail Webb. In their retirement, they enjoyed caring for their home and yard, hosting family events, and pridefully watching their grandchildren grow into adulthood, building successful businesses, and raising families. They were always hospitable and welcoming, creating opportunities for family to be together in their home. Their survivors include loyal son-in-law John Webb, loving daughter-in-laws Gail Webb, Dottie Freshour, Bonny Hawley, and beloved Sister Irene Bristow. They had nine grandchildren: Davey, Angie, Sammy, Willie, Clay, Damon, Matthew, Christoper, and Casey, and six great-grandchildren. They were preceded in death by their parents: Lloyd's four brothers, Ray, Calvin, Earl, Leo, and sister LaVonna. Natalie is preceded in death by brother Merlin, sister Joan, and children Kenneth, David, daughter Cristine, and grandson Mathew.

Lloyd Unzicker was born on June 11, 1930, to Walter D. and Ora Beighle Unzicker in Trousdale, Kansas. He grew up in Trousdale until 1943, when his family moved to Fowler, Kansas. He graduated from Fowler High School in 1949. He served in the Air Force until his discharge in 1955. He worked at Walker Mfg. Mead County and retired from ANR Pipeline after serving 22 years in 1992. Lloyd loved tinkering in the garage, caring for his home and yard, and eating his wife Natalie's fresh-baked bread and sweet treats. Lloyd had the rare human ability to wiggle his ears, which was highly popular among his great-grandchildren Liv and Louie. In his final years, he looked forward to their frequent visits, which included competitive tik-tac-toe games and sharing of sweets or cookies on the porch and was lovingly dubbed by them as the funniest person they had ever known.

Natalie Unzicker was born June 23, 1929, to Roy and Alice (Webb) Nelson in Dodge City, Kansas. She married Bob Freshour in 1948 and later married Lloyd Unzicker in 1963; she grew up in Dodge City, Kansas, and graduated from Dodge City High School. She worked at the Fowler Equity for several years. In 1984, she retired after 18 years of working for Meade County Conservation and working part-time for the Soil Conservation Service. She later managed the Park View apartments in Fowler for nine years. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Fowler Cut Up Quilters, and Rebekah Lodge.

A meticulous homemaker and loyal wife, Natalie often prepared meals for her family with fresh vegetables from her garden and enjoyed baking sweet bread for her husband, Lloyd. Natalie was a driven and independent woman who followed her creative passions, constantly honing her skills and bravely working with various materials and mediums. She was always working to improve her craft, whatever inspired and challenged her at the time. Quilting was one of her passions; she lovingly made quilts for all her family members. Natalie shared her love for nature and art with friends and family and sought friendships with like-minded, strong, and creative women who inspired and enriched her life. Her soul now rests in eternal peace, and her legacy of strength, love, loyalty, and servitude is written into the memories of those who loved her.
