Marjorie Lyda
Marjorie Lyda passed into heaven from Creekside Memory Care Community in Coeur d’Alene on March 20th.
Marge was born in England in 1921 to a white collar family, the baby of the family, “Madge”, having two older brothers and two older sisters. She was so happy to be finished with school at age 14, only to find out that her mother had a job lined out for her spooling coils in a factory on the Monday following her graduation. She worked in several trades before enlisting in Britain’s Women’s Land Army during WWII, bicycling 30 miles daily to do farm work, the only one in her family to serve.
In 1944 she met a handsome American soldier, Earl Lyda, at a dance. They married in 1945, had two days together before Earl had to return to France to continue his tour of duty. In 1946, Marge sailed by army transport ship to New York, and continued by train to Clarkston WA to finally be reunited with her husband and to reside on Joseph Plains.
For most of their marriage they lived in Cottonwood, Idaho with their family of three children, John, David, and Joan. When Marge was 50 years old she found salvation through faith in Christ and within six months the rest of the family had professed faith in Jesus as well.
Marge delighted in serving as a camp counselor at Pinelow Camp, Deer Park, WA, annually for 35 years leading many young girls to a relationship with Christ. Earl passed in 1993, and Marge moved to Grangeville continuing to worship and serve at the Church of the Nazarene, going to lunch with the Rodeo Gals and visiting with other dear friends, and enjoying her life in her sweet little apartment.
In 2012, she moved to Coeur d’Alene to be with family, and in 2015 transitioned to Creekside Inn.
Marge was a character; if there was trouble around, they found each other. She loved kids and they loved her. She loved to laugh, dress nicely, and was loath to hurt anyone’s feelings. If you knew her you loved her.
She was preceded in death by her birth family, her husband, Earl, and granddaughters Sabra and Sara, and daughter-in-law, Pauly (John). She leaves sons John Lyda, David (Jenifer) Lyda, and daughter Joan (Larry) Biggerstaff, grandchildren John Jr., Jason, Jeremy, Joel, Jared and Daniel, and 14 great grandchildren, and many children in Christ. Well done, good and faithful servant! A “celebration of life” service will be in the next few months in Grangeville, Idaho.
Thanks to Creekside Inn for caring for her these last 3+ years. She kept telling us she was “in a good place” and now she is in the “best” place. We love you, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma. See you on the other side.
