Marjorie "Joan" Mael passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family, on October 28, 2024, at the age of 89. Joan was a beloved social worker and devoted matriarch, survived by her daughter Kathleen Lehman, grand-daughter Ariel Burdette and great grand-daughter Aleri Burdette.
A proud graduate of the University of Idaho, Joan went on to earn her Master's degree in social work from the University of Denver, embarking on a career dedicated to helping others. Her work in the field of social services allowed her to touch countless lives, embodying the gentle spirit and unwavering support for those in need. Joan carried with her a desire to make a difference—a trait that will be remembered by all who knew her.
Joan was not only committed to her work but also to the passions that brought joy to her life. She was fond of long drives and enjoying the beauty of nature. Joan’s faith was a cornerstone of her life as she was a proud member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Coeur d'Alene, ID. She found solace and strength in her community.
Her gentle spirit was complemented by a sassy sense of humor, a combination that made her a delight to be around. Joan found solace in crossword puzzles, sudokus, and reading mysteries. She delighted in cheering for her beloved Gonzaga Basketball team. Above all, Joan adored her family and her cat, Kenneth, whose presence brought her much comfort.
Family was paramount to Joan; she cherished each moment spent with her loved ones. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Lehman; granddaughter, Ariel Burdette; great-granddaughter, Aleri Burdette; and step-grandchildren Sarah Sowards and her husband Peter, along with Jesse Lehman and his wife Erica and their two sons, Alex and Owen. Her legacy of love and nurturing will undoubtedly carry on through these generations.
Joan was preceded in death by her dear husband, Stanley Mael, and her son-in-law, John Lehman, both of whom she missed dearly.
As we remember Marjorie "Joan" Mael, we celebrate a life well lived—a life marked by profound love, gentle kindness, and steadfast dedication to both her family and her profession. Her spirit will forever remain a guiding light to those fortunate enough to have known her.
A small ceremony will be held November 16th, 2024 at 2pm
