Mary Herrick

Mary Jacqueline “Jackie” Herrick, loving and devoted mother and grandmother, passed away surrounded and held by love on April 14th, 2017 in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. Memorial services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday April 22nd, 2017, at St Pius X Catholic Church, with Father Roger LaChance officiating.

Jackie was born on May 24th, 1934, in Yakima, Washington, to Alexander Petersohn and Melba Fuller. She attended Catholic School for most of her youth, but graduated from Yakima High School at the age of 17, in 1951.

In 1954, she married Clyde R. Harrison in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. Together, they adopted a son, born Raymond Charles, at birth. She divorced Clyde, and in 1965, married Marlin E. Herrick. Together they had a daughter, Mary Lynn, in Livingston, Montana. The family then moved to Post Falls, Idaho in the winter of 1969, where she remained until she had to move Lacrosse Health and Rehab.

Jackie worked a variety of jobs during her life. She retired from Password Answering Service as a Telephone Operator of 30 years. During that time, she would bar tend on the weekends at a dear friend’s local bar, and loved every minute of it.

Jackie was also a housewife who loved gardening, canning and cooking. She took pride in entering her best flowers and vegetables in the local county fair. She enjoyed making a lot of her children’s clothes as they grew up. She liked to collect old bottles and rocks, as well as go sapphire and garnet digging. She loved to go bowling and play pool, belonging to several leagues through the years, and she won many trophies.

Jackie was known and loved for her kind heart, wittiness, and humor. Her son and daughter’s, childhood friends all called her “Mom” or “Ma Herrick”.

Jackie is survived by her daughter, Mary L. Herrick of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; her son, Raymond C. Harrison of Vancouver, Washington; and her grandchildren, Christopher Lynn, Trista Lynn, Angela Harrison, and Matthew Harrison.

She was preceded in death by her parents and numerous aunts and uncles.

The family would like to thank the loving staff at Lacrosse Health and Rehab for their wonderful care of our mother and grandmother over the past 11 years. We would also like to thank Hospice of North Idaho, who helped us during this past week. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, please send donations to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835.
