Mary Lois Lawson, 92, of Rathdrum, Idaho, passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017.
Beloved mother, grandmother and friend; Lois was born in Coeur d’Alene (“Gibbs”) on July 30, 1924, to her parents Edd and Ella Vedder. The youngest child of nine and only girl homesteaded with her family on Coeur d’Alene Mountain.
Lois worked in Portland as a welder during World War II, then made her living as a dental assistant and as an Albertson’s cashier before settling into a 25-year career employed with the city of Coeur d’Alene; mostly as City Clerk. After retiring, she spent time providing in-home childcare for her great-grandchildren. She was a member of Eagles and the American Legion.
Lois was married to Melvin Lawson from 1947 until his death in 2001. They raised two children, Pamela of Post Falls, Idaho, and Frank “Skip” of Santa Clarita, Calif.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents and brothers; grandson Darian Vanderhoof and son-in-law Marvin Vanderhoof. She is survived by daughter Pam Vanderhoof; grandson Lane Vanderhoof (Unity); granddaughter Lawnie Mathews (Richard); son Skip Lawson (Debbie); grandson Danny Lawson (Sharon); grandson Scott Lawson (Alexandra); 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be provided by English Funeral Chapel at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, at Forest Cemetery.
