It is with a heavy heart that we report the passing of Mary Ann Scoggins, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend to more than can be listed here. Mary Ann was born Sept. 29, 1943, in Hennepin, Minn., to Marie and Paul Nordstrom.
She grew up and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1961. On June 29, 1963, she married Donald Neal Scoggins in Sturgis, S.D., initially setting up their home while stationed in Lawton, Okla. Ultimately, the family moved to San Jose, Calif., in 1969 with their two sons, where Mary Ann later completed her bachelor’s degree in special education with a master’s degree in speech therapy. She became a special education teacher, a labor of love that continued for 36 years. In her spare time, Mary Ann was very active in the Lutheran Church and adored singing in the choir.
In 2007, Mary Ann and Don built a home and retired to the Cougar Gulch area of Coeur d’Alene where they enjoyed walking, boating and traveling. She continued to be very active in the Lutheran Church and sang not only in the church choir but with the Coeur d’Aleers as well. She was also a member of the Coeur d’Alene Women’s club and volunteered at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by both of her parents and a brother, Paul. Survivors include her beloved husband of 53 years, Donald; son Anthony and wife Shannon; and grandkids Benjamin and Phoebe of San Diego, Calif.; son Christopher of Coeur d’Alene; brother Jim and his wife, Terri of Kenosha, Wis.; sister-in-law Cookie of Corvallis, Mont,; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is set for 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, 2016, at the Lutheran Church of the Master in Coeur d’Alene with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest a donation to a charity of your choice in Mary Ann’s name.
The family also wishes to thank friends old and new, the staff of the English Funeral Chapel and of course all of Mary Ann’s friends at the Lutheran Church of the Master, especially Pastor Bob and wife Mary.
