Michael Kane

Michael Joseph Kane (74) of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on November 25, 2016. Mike was born November 29, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Joseph and Helen ( Abram ) Kane. Mike moved to Tacoma, Washington in 1954. He graduated from Stadium High School in 1960. He then went to Seattle University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in education in 1966.

Mike went on to be a dedicated teacher with the Puyallup School District for 31 years. He and his wife Mary also served as missionaries in Kijabe, Kenya from 1980-1982, where he taught a subject in nearly every grade. After returning from Africa, he and his wife settled in Puyallup, Washington where he continued his teaching career with the Puyallup School District until his retirement in 2000. Mike and Mary moved to Idaho in 2002 with Mary’s late father John Roney. Mike and Mary spent the years caring for his father-in-law until his passing in 2009. Mike enjoyed reading suspense novels, listening to sports and talk radio, playing with his grandchildren, making people laugh with his unique sense humor and, most importantly, communing with Christ and his church family at Hayden Bible. Mike had the ultimate servant’s heart and it was evident in all he did.

Mike showed amazing strength over the last five years of his life, surviving multiple heart surgeries and subsequent complications. He was determined to live each day to its fullest. Spending time each week in Bible study, loving each and every moment with his wife and doting on his grandchildren. Mike was most proud of the fact that he knew that one day he and his wife and children would all be united again in Heaven.

Mike was also preceded in death by his step-mother Esther Kane. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Mary (Roney) Kane, his children Steve (Theresa) Kane of Post Falls Idaho; Lisa Kane of University Place, Washington; Lori (Shawn) Mosqueda of Athol, Idaho. Grandchildren Jennifer (Stephen) Davidson; Kaiden, Moriah, Karlie, and Seth Mosqueda, great-grandchild, Zachary, and one special granddog, Togo. He is also survived by his sisters Cathy Leeper and Mary Baker; his sister-in-law Kathy (Roney) Skore and her husband, Greg Skore - Mike’s brother from another mother; as well as his brothers-in-law Dick (Karen) Roney; John (Tina) Roney; Pat (Kris) Roney and Gary Roney. He’s also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Thank you to the Hospice House of Hospice of North Idaho for their excellent, attentive care in his final days. Special thank you to the staff and residents of Bestland Independent Senior Living for helping to make his place a home and to Pastor Steve Massey for his spiritual guidance over the years.
