Neva Marie Holcombe McMinimy Moore (85) passed peacefully on August 1, 2018 with family at her side at the Schneidmiller Hospice House after a short battle with cancer.
Neva was born on April 13, 1933 in Crescent City, California to Donald Holcombe and Alta Sargent Holcombe. Neva joined older brother Donald Holcombe. Later, Donald and Neva were adopted when Alta remarried Richard “Mick” McMinimy. They were joined by siblings Richard and Patricia McMinimy.
Born during the Depression year, their family traveled the west following the crop harvests and any work Mick and Alta could find. They spent years in Electric City, Washington, where Mick worked on the construction of Grand Coulee Dam. They discovered Spokane and moved to the area when Mick became employed at Kiaser Aluminum Trentwood. They moved to Post Falls in the 1940’S where Mick and Alta spent the remainder of their lives.
Neva graduated from P.F H.S. Class of 1951 and soon met the love of her life. A young local soldier home on leave. Frederick James Moore. They married on June 2, 1951 at the Post Falls Presbyterian Church. They quickly started a family. Pamela Ann was born 1952, James Richard 1953, and later Christopher 1957.
Fred was employed at Kaiser Aluminum Trentwood and Neva was a homemaker. in the 1960’s, Fred and Neva opened the Speed Queen Laundromat which operated for 25 years in the Farver’s Supermarket building, when the kids got older, Neva began her career as a bartender where she worked at the Falls Club and later the Lucky Shamrock in Hauser Lake.
Fred and Neva were very active in the community and made many friends. They were founding members of Calvary Lutheran Church which Fred helped construct. They were on the Post Falls Float committee and won numerous awards for their beautiful floats entered into the Armed Forces and Lilac Parades in Spokane.
Fred and Neva purchased property on the Spokane River at Greensferry and began boating the river and Lake Coeur d’Alene. They joined the Coeur d’Alene Water Ski Club and Neva would be on top of a 6 man pyramid preforming at Coeur d’Alene City Beach 4th of July Celebrations.
Neva was active in many organizations. Post Falls Odd Fellows, Rebekas, Royal Neighbors, American Legion Post 143, Post Falls Lions Club, Eagles Club, Post Falls Library, and Lady pool league.
After Fred retired, they travelled the U.S. extensively until Fred’s passing in 2003. Neva then began to travel the world with her niece Debra McMinimy Nickerson and her brother Richard and wife Norma. She loved to travel and cruise, and even went zip lining at 82.
Neva is proceeded in death by her parents Richard “Mick” McMinimy and Alta McMinimy. Her husband of 52 years, Frederick Moore, brothers Donald and Richard McMinimy.
Neva is survived by her sister Patricia Edwards, Plummer, Idaho; daughter Pamela (Darrell) McCurdy,San Leon, Texas; sons James (Judy) Moore, Garwood, Idaho and Christopher (Joanne) Moore, Post Falls, Idaho; numerous Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, and her first Great Great Grandchild Benjamin, and many Nieces and Nephews.
Neva was the matriarch of the family and will be dearly missed by family and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 11th at 2pm at English Funeral Chapel 1700 N. Spokane Street Post Falls.
In lieu of flowers, Donations in Neva’s name may be made to Hospice of North Idaho 2290 W. Prairie Ave. Coeur d’Alene, Idaho 83854
Thanks for the kindness and amazing care by the staff of hospice for our loved ones. Neva was of the greatest generation and now leaves us for a new adventure.
