Opha Wight

Opha Ann (Carman) Wight, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at The Renaissance at Coeur d’Alene Assisted Living Community, on November 24, 2018.

Opha was born on April 11, 1932 in St. Maries, Idaho. She and her four siblings grew up in St. Maries where Opha met her first husband, Burt William Wight. After Opha and Burt were married, they moved to Spokane. Together they had five children: Dan, Tom, Julie, Patricia Gail, and Andrea.

Opha was a devoted mother, homemaker, and a wonderful cook. Her family uses many of her favorite recipes. She enjoyed outdoor gardening, keeping roses, iris, and had a wonderful indoor garden of violets, begonias, and assorted tropical plants. Opha was very talented and creative. She loved to sew clothing for all members of her family. She made detailed crochet, needlepoint, and knit items, as well as many beautiful ceramic figurines.

Opha and her family loved to camp at Priest Lake in the summertime, took many vacations to Yellowstone, and the Pacific coast. She loved to travel!

Opha participated in a local bowling league for years, and collected many trophies and top-scorer pins. She and her husband Burt loved to go dancing at area granges and lodges.

After Burt’s death in 1983, Opha married Marion (Marty) Maudlin in 1985. Opha and Marty lived in Kingston and Rathdrum, Idaho. Together they enjoyed traveling. They made trips to far-away places like Florida, Hawaii, enjoyed touring in their motorhome, and spent many winters in Arizona.

Opha was preceded in death by first husband Burt, daughter Julie, daughter Patricia Gail, son Tom, second husband Marty, three brothers, and many lifelong friends.

Opha is survived by her sister Alice, son Dan (Lori), daughter Andrea (John), son-in-law Vernon (Patricia Gail), 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries, Idaho on November 30, 2018 at 1:00pm. A celebration of the extraordinary life of Opha Ann (Carman) Wight will be held in the summer of 2019 in the St. Maries, Idaho area.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of The Renaissance at Coeur d’Alene Assisted Living Community and Hospice of North Idaho for their loving care and support.
