Pearl Anna (Burke) Brown born Aug. 28, 1918, to Alma Lee and William Burke in Isabel, S.D. She was the seventh child of a 10 children, five boys and five girls.
She graduated from high school in Morristown, S.D. Her father passed away in 1925 leaving her mother to raise 10 children. Unable to afford to go to college, she purchased a short-hand book, taught herself the fundamentals, later passing a Civil Service test and went to work for Soil Conservation Service in Rapid City and Kadoka, S.D. She moved to Aberdeen, S.D., in 1947 and was employed by Downs Insurance Agency and the Internal Revenue Service.
Pearl married Addie Brown on Sept. 9, 1948, and moved to Idaho in 1954. While living in Coeur d’Alene, she worked for the Coeur d’Alene Creamery, Edith and Clayton Smith’s Credit Bureau, and in 1959 went to work for the Fraternal Order of Eagles, retiring after 21 years there in 1980.
Her hobbies were writing poetry, playing the piano, crossword puzzles and bingo. At one time she and members of her family formed a band and played for barn dances in South Dakota. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and St. Thomas Catholic Church.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Addie; brothers Clarence, Clifford, Warren, Marcus and Alvin Burke; and sisters Edna, Mildred and Myrtle.
She is survived by sons Allen and Lonnie Brown of Coeur d’Alene; her sister, Fern Olson of Aberdeen; and several nieces and nephews.
At Pearl’s request, there will be no funeral services held. English Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please support the Seattle Mariners and the Seahawks!
