Phyllis Leone Ditmar Turk, 99, of Post Falls passed October 31, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born May 11, 1918 in Havre Montana to Archie and Kathryn Ditmar. She later moved to Coeur d’Alene, attending school in Coeur d’Alene and graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School. She married Roy Turk on October 14, 1940 in Coeur d’Alene. Roy and Phyllis resided in various cities throughout the Pacific Northwest before returning to the Coeur d’Alene area in 1949. Post Falls became their permanent residence in 1963.
Roy and Phyllis had five children; Kathie, Terrance, Greg, Jeanne, and Steve. Phyllis was devoted to family. She was a gifted gardener; her yard was the envy of many Post Falls residents. She was employed at the Coeur d’Alene Tree Nursery for a number of seasons and enjoyed the friendships she established there. She was a loyal fan of the Post Falls Trojans, Seattle Mariners and Gonzaga Bulldogs. She attended North Country Chapel in Post Falls.
Phyllis is remembered with love by daughter Kathie and husband Bill Coles of Athol; son Greg of Post Falls and daughter-in-law Barbara Turk Hatfield of Liberty Lake; daughter Jeanne and husband George Cowan of Rathdrum; and son Steve and wife Jannice of Post Falls.
Perhaps her greatest legacy is the bond she established with all of her grandchildren: Larry (Heather) Gunn, Kimberly Gunn, Teresa (Scott) Hatter, Scott (Jill) Turk, Mike Timmons, Katherine (Darrell) Timmons, Craig Timmons, Jessica Turk, Jacob (Ellen) Turk, Brianna (Jacob) Turk, many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She made all the time in the world for her grandchildren. She was never impatient, never seemed rushed and never made them feel like she had anything to do other than whatever it was they were doing at that moment. She was always willing to judge their never ending talent shows, and the score would always end in a tie. She was their trusted confidant and she is adored by all of them.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Roy; son Terrence; grandchildren Justina and Kimberly Gunn, and Kenneth Timmons; sisters Dorothy Schmeling and Blanche Ditmar.
She will leave a void in the lives of all privileged to know and love her and remains an example for all of us.
A celebration of her life will be held at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls on Saturday, November 11th at 2:00 p.m.
