Robert Coles

Robert “Bob” William Coles, age 85, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, Oct. 27, 2017.

He was born Sept. 8, 1932, in Nelson, British Columbia, to William and Madalena Coles. He and his family moved to Post Falls, Idaho in 1938 and he has always called Post Falls home. Bob often said that Post Falls is the most beautiful place in the world.

He traveled early, joining the Navy at age 17 at the start of the Korean War. He served on a communication ship, Mt. McKinley. He returned home to Post Falls, worked locally and met and married Constance MacDonald, a nurse from Spokane. Bob and Connie were a winning team, married 47 years, and in that time they developed his businesses, the most successful being Skyview Construction Company. He built the Highlands Golf Course Community in Post Falls and was also one of the founders of Community First Bank in Post Falls. They also reared five children: Eric, Laurie (Paul Hill), Lee Ann (Dale Beeks), Jolaine (Alan Joseph), and Jon (Lisa).

Bob understood that accomplishment should be recognized for what it is, a great capacity for hard work. He continued to assist his son, Jon, with Skyview Construction Company into his 85th year. His favorite time of day was sunup, as each day held the promise of “getting it done.” He was often at the jobsite, overseeing his crews which included his sons, his grandsons, brothers, nephews and many of the sons and daughters of the Post Falls community.

Connie joined Bob in his travels including Alaska, Germany and Scotland. She preceded him in death as did his brother, Alfred, and his sisters, Margaret and Mary Jo. Bob is survived by his twin sister, Rosemary Dickson; his brother, William (Bill) Coles; his five children; 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
