Robert Sweitzer

Cpl. Robert J. Sweitzer, 63rd Infantry Division during World War II, was born on Nov. 19, 1925, in Beech Creek, Pa. He left this world on his great journey, March 10, 2018.

He was a longtime resident of Post Falls, Idaho, moving there when he was four with his parents, Howard and Agnes, and his two brothers, Paul and Tom. The family lived on the mountain and lived off the land to escape the coal mining society in Pennsylvania where so many were stricken with the black lung in his family. He lived to be one of the oldest in his family at age 92. He always said, “Pretty good for only being 3 pounds at birth!”

Robert loved nature, the outdoors, camping and hunting. He was an avid fly fisherman and fly tier. He worked for 30 years at Kaiser Aluminum and still visited regularly with his coworkers, John Reed and John Mathason. He also had wonderful neighbors which he cared for so dearly; Bill, Nola and Steve, who went above and beyond to care for and help him. They were a blessing.

Robert was preceded in death by the love of his life, Avis; his son, Robert Dale, and his brother, Paul. Robert is survived by his daughter, Diana Sweitzer, and many grandchildren, Steve Watson, Joe Dull, LiLi Rodriguez, Scott Reitan and Crystal Rodriguez. His nephew, Rick and Tina Sweitzer, were the family that visited him often and truly loved him.

Robert will be missed with his witty humor and his caring ways. I, Diana (his daughter), will miss our strong bond and relationship. He was the best father.

By his request, being a proud American, he will have a military burial at 1 p.m. on March 27, 2018, at Evergreen Cemetery, 2834 N. Spokane St. Post Falls, Idaho.
