Roy H. Burns, 84, passed away Aug. 9, 2016. Roy was born in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on June 5, 1932, to James and Donna Burns and lived most of his life here.
He graduated from the Idaho State School for the Deaf and Blind in Gooding, Idaho, where he lettered in basketball and track. Following graduation, he worked at some of the area lumber mills where he pulled Green Chain for more than 33 years, when the Northwest Timber mill closed in 1994, he joined the ranks of the retired.
One of his many joys was dancing and he loved to dance to the beat he could feel through the floor at live music venues. It was safe to say his dance card was always full. A very gregarious person, he was the life of the party. If you were not one of his friends, it’s only because he had not met you yet. Other pastimes were shooting pool, video bowling and “teasing” the staff at Bestland Retirement Community where he lived since 2008, no one was exempt. He was active in the Coeur d’Alene and Spokane Area Deaf Club for many years. He loved family. He traveled to California to see his children and grandchildren on several occasions and holidays.
Roy is survived by his brother, James Burns of Coeur d’Alene; son Randy Burns of Spokane and daughter Peggy Davidson of Clarkston, Wash.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, James Burns and Donna Plumb; his sister, Anna Mae Buckner and his oldest daughter, Pamela Mae.
A viewing will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, 2016, at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene, and the funeral service at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016. Burial to follow at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.
