Russell Hall

Russell “Russ” Dean Hall, 52, of Rathdrum, Idaho, passed away embraced with love from his family and friends on Oct, 20, 2017.

Russ was born in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on Oct. 24, 1964 to Donald and Carolyn Hall. When Russ was four years old his mother married Dorian “Ponch” Thomas. Ponch and Carolyn took great pride in raising Russ and his little brother, Don and Ponch’s sons, Tim and Rocky. Russ attended Post Falls School District and was a member of the Class of 1983. In high school Russ was on the football team and played trumpet in both the marching and concert band.

Russ was an avid reader and enjoyed all types of literature, but Stephen King books were always a favorite. Russ was an intellect and a thinker; he loved Jeopardy, and it was crazy how he was rarely ever stumped by the questions! Family dinners, events, camping trips, floating the river and time spent at Stateline Speedway were always special to him.

A common bond that Russ shared with so many was his love for music and attending concerts. Scorpions, Megadeth, Queensryche, Ozzie Osborne and Def Leppard were all concerts that he attended multiple times throughout his years.

Russ was a passionate, gentle soul with a fantastic sense of humor, a hardy laugh and a ton of love, and when it came to his boys he found his joy. Russ loved spending time with his boys; teaching them to fish, play catch or just talking with them. As a father his heart beamed with pride each time he attended any of their games; drove across the country to attend his oldest son, Kelly’s wedding; taking his youngest, Christian, to Universal Studios, or proudly working side-by-side with his middle son, Don, at North Idaho Wood Preserving — a place Russ had worked for more than 25 years.

Russ was a good “Papa” to his grandchildren, Ellie May and Baby Jack, and he was quick to lend an ear or offer his advice whenever his daughter-in-law, Jen, wanted a heart-to-heart or just needed to vent. Russ also had a strong protective bond with his brother, Don and enjoyed some fun-loving banter between sisters-in-laws Deb and Terrie.

Russ is survived by his beautiful former wife of over 20 years, Deanna Eppers Hall; their sons, Kelly (Alyssa) Eppers, Don (Jen) Hall and Christian Hall; his grandchildren, Ellie May and Jack; stepfather, Dorian “Ponch” (Kellee) Thomas; brother, Don (Terrie Eppers) Hall; step brother, Tim (Kathy) Thomas; Forever-In-Laws, Deb Eppers Madsen and Betty Eppers; as well as numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Russ is preceded in death by his parents, Donald Hall and Carolyn Thomas; and step brother, Rocky Thomas.

A potluck celebration of life will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017 at the Post Falls Senior Center, 1215 E. Third St. A no-host bar with beer and wine will be available.
