Ruth Ann Glaspie, 68, of Post Falls, danced into the arms of Jesus on Aug. 16, 2018. Ruth was born in Portland, Ore., on Dec. 11, 1949, to parents Thomas and Xeilah Butterfield. Ruth was the oldest of 12 children, all of whom she loved dearly. From the time she was very young, Ruth took on the responsibility of raising all her siblings to keep them all together.
Ruth attended school in Post Falls, where she met the love of her life, Earl Glaspie, in 1963, when they were just 14 years old. They married on March 30, 1970, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. During their 48 years of marriage, they raised their four children. They enjoyed taking the family on camping trips to the ocean, Yellowstone National Park, The Redwood Forest or Bumblebee Campground here in North Idaho.
Ruth loved all music and cars from the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s. Ruth loved reminiscing about the days past when she used to work at The Boots and Saddle, Circle K, Webeco, Don LaVoie / Anheuser Busch Distributing, and even the bean camps where they harvested the crops when they were kids.
Family was very important to her. Ruth loved having her grandkids, nieces and nephews spend the night so she could spoil them rotten. Ruth loved to teach them new skills like baking cookies, sewing pillows and making homemade ice cream. Ruth was an incredibly talented seamstress who loved making the kids’ costumes for Halloween and pajamas for Christmas.
Ruth was an amazing cook and it seemed that she always cooked for a small army. There was always room at the dinner table, and she was more than happy to feed anyone who stopped by. Our family favorite was her Sunday morning breakfast which included her plate sized hashbrowns, bacon and eggs to order. Ruth was incredibly generous and loved fiercely. If Ruth knew you needed food, diapers or gas in your tank to get to work, she was the first to step up and help you out. Ruth was a hardworking, fun loving, free spirited, nurturing person, with a quick witted sense of humor who loved to laugh and loved her family even more.
She is preceded in death by her parents Tom and Hexie, siblings Walter, Cheryl, Stanley and Kevin, and best friend Barbara Rose Mabie.
She is survived by her husband Earl Glaspie, daughters: Angie (Mike) Hohman, Cindie (Leyman) Tedford, Wendy (Pat) Bowman and Son: Earl “Tiger” Glaspie. Grandchildren: Matthew Myers, Kurtis Hohman, Amy Moss (Chad), Scott Hohman (Victoria Spry), Colton Glaspie (Roxie), Cheyanne Glaspie, Meagan Glaspie, Kayla Helgeson, Sara Hohman, Cassidy Glaspie, Emily Tedford, Johnna Reems, Carson Glaspie, Anna Tedford, Isabella Goodwin and Great-Grandsons: Luke, Bo and Aaron Moss, Marvin and Harvey Hohman, Axton Glaspie, Zacharias and Linkin Glaspie; and her siblings Richard (Johna) Butterfield, Tom (Kelly) Butterfield, Rusty Butterfield, Debbie Wheeler, Diana Thompson, Suzie Davis, Shirley (Paul) Schmidt as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, forever in laws Kimm Butterfield and Billie Jo Goodwin and Ruth’s beloved dog Su-Ling. A special thanks to Wendy Wilson for the care given over the past several months.
