Sandra Kay (Mason) Olson passed away March 28, 2017, at the age of 75 years. She was born in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on Aug. 23, 1941, to Charles and Gladys (Naslund) Mason. Sandi grew up in town and graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1959, after which she attended Kinman Business School in Spokane, Wash.
Sandi married her husband, Joel, on Oct. 24, 1962, and together they spent time in Wyoming, Utah and Oregon. As the family grew with the addition of two young children, Charles and Kristine, they then settled in Centralia, Wash., for many years. Sandi was a wonderful mother and homemaker. Whether it was feeding the chickens, preserving jams and applesauce, or driving her kids to various activities, Sandi served her family with love.
Sandi had a generous and gentle spirit and was a faithful believer in Jesus Christ. She loved children and spent several years teaching Sunday School, passing along her faith to others.
Skilled in crocheting, she made many beautiful afghans and blankets, which she enjoyed giving to family and friends as gifts. Sandi also loved animals, especially dogs. Throughout the years, she enjoyed the companionship of several wonderful canine friends and gave each of them a loving home in return.
Other pastimes she enjoyed included traveling with her son to various places across the western U.S. and attending her grandson’s sporting events. In her later years, Sandi welcomed the opportunity to again live in Coeur d’Alene, in her beloved North Idaho.
Sandi was preceded in death by her parents; by her sister, Sharon Smith; and by her husband, Joel Olson.
She is survived by her son, Chuck Olson (Cara Weipert) of Spokane; daughter Kris Hand (Don) of Kennewick, Wash.; and grandson Cody Hand of Kennewick. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Kenneth Smith of Hayden, Idaho; and several nieces and cousins.
