Shirley Mae Kaste Augustine

    Shirley passed away September 24, 2023 in Couer d’Alene, ID at the age of 93. She was born October 30, 1929 in Havre, MT to William FG Kaste and Gladys Gordon Kaste. The family relocated to Great Falls where Shirley graduated from Great Falls High in 1947. She worked for Electric City Conservatory and Great Northern Railroad before meeting and marrying Robert Riley Augustine in 1950. They had four children, Michael, Leslie, Gordon, and Beth. In 1967 the family moved from Great Falls to Spokane, WA, where Shirley made many great lifetime friends and enjoyed hobbies, including bowling and playing cards. Shirley and Bob relocated to Coeur d’Alene, ID in 1978; and shortly afterwards became snowbirds, enjoying many winters in Yuma, AZ.
    Shirley was preceded in death by her brothers Ray and William Kaste and sisters JoAnn Cramer, Lorraine Harlan and Dorothy Jean Kaste. Preceding her in death was her husband Bob (2003) and daughter Beth (2021). Her companion of many years, Donald Kilian, passed in 2020. She is survived by her son Michael (Bobbi) Augustine of Vancouver, WA; daughter Leslie Bening of Post Falls, ID; and Gordon (Cheryl) Augustine of Vienna Austria. She was a grandmother to eight grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. No service is planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to Hospice of North Idaho.
