Shirley Miller
Shirley L. Miller, 86, passed away March 29, 2017, in Coeur d’Alene. She was born Aug. 22, 1930, in Coeur d’Alene to Andrew and Julia Larson. Shirley was the youngest of 11 children, and she was born on her mother’s 45th birthday. She lived her entire life in Coeur d’Alene.
Shirley graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1948. She married her high school sweetheart, Marvin Miller, on Aug. 20, 1948.
Shirley worked as a waitress for Bob Templin and she would later work in retail at J.C. Penney for 53 years where she worked her way up to managerial positions. J.C. Penney hated to see her go, but she finally retired in 2006 and she was surprised that Penney’s was still standing after she left.
Shirley and Marvin had two children, Douglas and Connie. They were married for 67 years and loved camping in their RV and hosting parties for the neighborhood.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; her parents, Andrew and Julia Larson; sisters Mable Gant, Hazel Dudinsky, Alice Decker, Irene Emheiser, Violet Andersen, Joyce Peterson and Elaine Herman; brothers Chet Larson, Swede Larson and Marvin Larson; and her grandson, Brent Miller.
She is survived by children Doug Miller (Pat Kovatch) and Connie Gridley (Jay); grandchildren Derek Miller (Leslie), Toreé McMillan (Luke) and Carrie Gridley-Shenfield (Larry); along with several nieces and nephews.
A joint celebration of life for Shirley and Marvin will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 812 N. Fifth St., Coeur d’Alene.
