Steve Wesson, 74

Steve Wesson, age 74, passed away peacefully at Kootenai Health on Nov. 20, 2018, following a stroke on Nov. 17, 2018. Steve was born Sept. 26, 1944, to Clarence and Pearl (Ezell) Wesson in Anniston, Ala. He was the fourth of ten children. The family moved to Southern California when he was twelve.

Steve took his first job when he was 10 years old as a paperboy and during high school worked bagging groceries. After high school graduation, he worked in a cabinet shop until he turned 18 and could enlist in the United States Marine Corp (USMC). He was a very proud veteran of the Vietnam War. He returned to cabinet making following his service time until he was hired by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. He had the time of his life for the next 31 years in a variety of positions; from patrol to narcotics. He happily retired in 1997 to beautiful North Idaho and never looked back. His retirement was filled with friends, travel, working out daily, sudoku, reading, listening to country music and spending quality time with his wife. Over the years, he kept busy maintaining a variety of family residences; on ten acres, on a golf course, at a bungalow on Pend Oreille River, and several homes in Hayden and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Steve never met a stranger, enjoyed embellishing stories, was a lifelong conservative and a proud patriot. He was dependable, kind, and loved to banter with family, friends and the general public.

Steve is survived by his wife, Connie, whom he spoiled rotten. They were together 40 years, married almost 35 years. His first marriage gave him a daughter, Wendy (Paul) (Wesson) Brattain and granddaughters, Lexi and Lani of Lacey, Wash. He gained a son through the adoption of Connie’s nephew, Dylan Cox Wesson of Portland, Ore. Other survivors include his best friend and brother, David along with his other siblings, Mary Ann, Amanda, Jenny, Myra and Leland and numerous nieces, nephews and their children who reside in California, as well as family pets, Tessa and Millie.

Special thanks go to Kootenai Health Emergency and CCU Departments for the exceptional care the staff gave to Steve and his family.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Steve’s name, to Kootenai County Police and Fire Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 1748, Hayden, ID 83835.

Steve was buried at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery at Medical Lake.

His celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, at English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene. Hawaiian shirts and bright attire is encouraged for his celebration.
