Terry E. Hopkins

Terry Edward Hopkins, 93 passed away Dec. 19, 2024, at The Hospice of North Idaho Schneidmiller House in Coeurd'Alene, Idaho.

Terry was born in San Francisco on May 21, 1931 to Edward Hopkins and Evon (North) Hopkins. He was the first born of two sons. The family relocated to Redwood City, Calif., where Terry graduated from Sequoia High School in 1949. He then attended College of San Mateo, where he graduated in 1951. Terry enlisted in the US Army in 1952 where he served in the 6th Infantry Division at Fort Ord, Calif. until 1954. He then attended San Jose State, where he graduated in 1956 with a Degree of Bachelor of Arts. After that, Terry started his career with the County of San Mateo as a Real Property Appraiser, where he remained until his retirement in 1994, after 35 years of dedicated service.

Terry lived in Redwood City until 2020, when he relocated to Coeurd'Alene to be near his nephews.

Terry was a great man, hockey fan, animal lover, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, uncle-in-law, step uncle and a friend to many. Just like his late brother Nev, if you met him, you were sure to hear a story from the past. Terry never married or fathered children of his own, but was heavily involved with his late brother Nev, his first wife Carole, and their two sons Dan and Dave. There are many fond memories of holidays, hockey games, vacations to Santa Cruz and amusement parks and trips to Carson City.

Terry is survived by his nephew and niece-in-law, Dan and Emelyn Hopkins of Tualatin, Oregon; nephew and niece-in-law, Dave and Sherri Hopkins of Coeurd'Alene; great nephew, Colton Hopkins of Tualatin, Oregon; sister-in-law, Irene Hopkins of Oyama British Colombia; step niece and husband, Kelly and Jim Carlson of Oyama; and step nephew Matt Wachter of Oyama. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Nev.

At Terry's request, no services will be held. Instead, a private celebration of life for the family will be held at a later date. Memorials in Terry's name are suggested to Companions Animal Center, formerly The Kootenai Humane Society.

English Funeral Chapel and Crematory in Coeurd'Alene and Alta Mesa Cemetery and Funeral Home in Palo Alto, Calif. are entrusted with final arrangements.
