Verda Colleen Hansen, 87

Verda Colleen Hansen, of Rathdrum, Idaho, was born June 26, 1930, in Boise, Idaho. She passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018. Colleen was preceded in death by her husband, Vear Hansen; son KC Hansen; parents Doug and Verda Westenhaver; and granddaughter Zartha.

As a young girl, Colleen worked as a telephone operator in Boise. She loved to bowl, play volleyball and go for walks. Colleen loved family history and scrapbooking. She married Vear on Nov. 8, 1949, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived many places in the Northwest and in Rathdrum for 26 years. One of Colleen’s favorite places to live was Tillamook, Ore.

She loved growing her plants and flowers. She especially loved her family and being home to take care of them. She had a great sense of humor. Colleen had a great love for God and knew she needed to have a Christ-like life to be a forever family. She worked hard to teach that to all her loved ones.

Colleen is survived by her brother, Doug (Joan) Westenhaver of Tualatin, Ore.; sons, Kirk (Bonnie) of Gooding, Idaho, and Kim (Rhonda) of Rathdrum; daughters, Kelly (James) Mason of Southbury, Conn., Kristi (Jeff) Haslam of Newberg, Ore., and Kayla Ray of Rathdrum; daughter-in-law, Mary (Paul) Hansen Bell of Moses Lake, Wash.; and her precious 26 grandchildren and 44 (plus two on the way) great-grandchildren, along with a great-great-grandchild on the way.

We’re so grateful to know Mom is no longer struggling with the limitations of her earthly body and mind. Her kids all grew up with identity crisis. “Kkirkimkkckelly kristikayla. Whatever your name is!” And her grandkids will be called by their correct names. We love you mom and Grandma!

Her services will be at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 15151 N. Meyer Road, Rathdrum, Idaho. The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Jan. 20, 2018, at Cloverdale Cemetery in Boise.
