William W. Gotfredson

William W. Gotfredson, “Bill”, the son of Henry and Boniface Gotfredson, was born in Yakima Washington. He passed away peacefully at Hospice of Spokane Hospice House surrounded by loving family September 14, 2024 at the age of 95.

Bill’s childhood family relocated to Coulee Dam, WA in 1943. A great work ethic was instilled when his father taught him the meat cutting trade at the age of 14. He graduated from Coulee Dam High School then went on to attend Eastern Washington State College earning a BA in Music Education. There he met and married E. Elaine Clark in 1951.

Bill enlisted and served 21 months in the Spokane Air National Guard which later became the 560th Air Force Band. The band not only provided entertainment for troops, but also necessary parade marches and ceremonial events. Bill was an accomplished trumpet and stand-up bass player. He was passionate about his music, playing as a bassist for “Ham on Regal” plays as well as the Coeur D Alene Big Band and Tuxedo Junction Big Band. He was 85 when he played his last gig.

Bill worked for Gerber Products. He retired in 1993 as a Territorial Sales Manager of the largest geographic territory in the US. Bill loved doing yard work, fishing, woodworking, family, and mentoring entrepreneurs through SCORE.

Bill was not only an exceptional husband to Elaine for 73 years, but also the father of four children whom he loved unconditionally: Bill (Ann) Gotfredson, Patricia (Tony) Sims, Cathy Jahn, and Nanette Gotfredson. He relished his role as grandfather to Heidi Kysar, Erik Jahn, Jon Gotfredson, Katie Stewart, Matt Gotfredson, and Hanna Tracy who have added 10 great grandchildren for him to cherish. He is also survived by one sister, Anna.
