William H. Munn

1925-2019

William Hector Munn was born on June 15, 1925, in Potlatch, Idaho, to Hector and Ruth (Taber) Munn and passed from his earthly body to join Alice on February 8, 2019, at Good Samaritan in Spokane Valley.   Bill grew up and attended schools in Coeur d’Alene except for a short period when the family lived in Wallace, Idaho.

Bill enlisted in the U. S. Navy in March of 1943 (at the age of 17) and served for the remainder of World War II.  His first duty after boot camp at Farragut Naval Station was aboard the U.S.S. Guadalcanal.  He transferred to V.J.7 Squadron and served in San Diego and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  On March 19, 1944, he married Alice Harvey in Chula Vista, California.  Bill and Alice first met in Coeur d’Alene when they were in the 4th grade and celebrated their 74th Anniversary in 2018.  They lived in National City, California, until he was sent to Pearl Harbor.  After Bill’s discharge, he and Alice returned to Coeur d’Alene where they lived until July 2017 when their health required a move to Good Samaritan in the Spokane Valley.  Upon returning to Coeur d’Alene, Bill worked for 4 years as an apprentice carpenter before going to work at Kaiser Aluminum, Trentwood.  He remained at Kaiser for 37 years until his retirement in 1987.

Bill and Alice had three children; Mary Anne, Linda Lee and Robert William.  Bill built the house on 7th Street where they raised their family and remained until 2014.  Bill enjoyed woodworking and traveling with Alice and any friends or family that wanted to join them-- starting with tent camping in the early years and progressing to a camper and then a 5th wheel.   He also enjoyed helping his family and friends with building projects.

Survivors include daughters Mary (Steve) Dorchak of Desert Hot Springs, CA, Linda (Rendell) Walters of Spokane Valley, daughter-in-law Valerie Munn of Aberdeen, WA, brother-in-law Rich (Sheri) Harvey of Yuma, AZ, sister -in-law Vivien Harvey of Walla Walla, WA, 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alice, son Bob and his sister Betty.
