Pete was a devoted husband and father, a loyal committed employee, and a dedicated servant to God and his country.
Pete was born and raised in Walterboro, SC and developed a strong work ethic at an early age. He picked cotton, had a paper route, and at age 16, drove the rural school bus to supplement the family income.
After graduating high school, he enlisted in the US Air Force and proudly served his country for 20 years. In 1965 he met Judy who was a US Department of Defense teacher at the base school for military dependents. They fell in love and were married in 1966. This past August they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together.
Air Force years were exciting and eventful as the couple became a family welcoming daughter, Karen, and son, Keith, in 1969 and 1972 respectively. Pete served in the Vietnam War apart from his family but later they spent a 3-year tour in lzmir, Turkey where all met new friends, experienced new customs, and enjoyed wonderful experiences visiting historical sites.
Upon retirement from the Air Force in 1977, the family moved to Spokane, WA where Pete began a 30 year career in the building and construction industry with Diamond Lumber, Acme Concrete, and Spokane Rock Products. He was a member of the National Association of Home Builders.
He was an elder ordained at Opportunity Presbyterian Church. Volunteered for his children's school events, enjoyed bringing Christmas cheer as Santa for the annual Jr. League Foster Families' Christmas breakfast, for day cares and for family friends.
Pete loved salmon fishing, playing golf, and was happiest when spending time with family, friends, and his beloved lab, Rebel at the Lake Coeur d'Alene cabin.
His fortitude was challenged over the past year as he bravely battled cancer, but he never complained nor gave up until called to his heavenly home on Saturday October 15, 2016. Pete is survived by: Judy Karen Wilson, Keith (Dede) Nettles, nephews, Willis and Ricky O'Quinn, brother-in-law, Mac O'Quinn, sister-in- law, Linda Wahoske, nephews: Brad, Blake, and Todd Wahoske and 8 grandchildren.
An honor ceremony will be held Thursday, October 27th precisely at 2:15 p.m. At WA State Veterans Cemetery: 21702 W Espanola Road in Medical Lake, WA followed by a reception at Honor Point Military Aerospace Museum-Felts Field in Spokane.
In lieu of flowers, if one chooses to honor Pete, kindly donate to a charity on his behalf.
